The program is real, the law is signed, but you can't open a Trump Account yet. Here are the key dates you need to know.
The Launch Date: July 5, 2026
Invest America Accounts officially open on July 5, 2026. That's when the U.S. Treasury will begin accepting account applications through the online portal at trumpaccounts.gov.
Before that date, no one can actually open or fund a Trump Account. If a website is claiming otherwise, be skeptical.
The April 15, 2026 Deadline
This is the date that matters most right now.
If your child was born between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2028, they're eligible for a free $1,000 government seed contribution. To claim it, you need to file IRS Form 4547 with your 2025 tax return by April 15, 2026.
You don't receive the money on April 15. That comes when accounts open in July. But filing the form by April 15 is how you establish your child's eligibility for the seed.
Miss the deadline? You can still file the form later or open an account directly through the portal after July 5. But if you want the cleanest path to the $1,000 seed, April 15 is your target.
What Happens After July 5?
Once the portal opens, you'll be able to:
- Open a Trump Account for your child
- Add contributions (up to $5,000/year)
- Eventually roll the account over to a participating financial institution
We've got a full step-by-step guide to opening a Trump Account for when the time comes.
When Does Your Child Get the $1,000?
The government seed will be deposited into the account once it's opened after July 5, 2026, assuming eligibility has been confirmed. It then gets invested in an S&P 500 index fund and starts compounding. See what that $1,000 could grow into over 18 years.
